Restoril

What is Restoril?

Restoril®, which is also known as temazepam, is an intermediate acting benzodiazepine that is normally prescribed to treat:

  • Disabling Sleep Disorders
  • Severe Insomnia

Restoril® works by slowing activity in the brain to allow sleep.

Is Restoril addicting?

Restoril® is meant for short term use between 7 to 10 days and should not be taken for more than 2-3 weeks without close doctor supervision. Within a few weeks of consistently taking Restoril®, the body adjusts to the presence of the drug and a tolerance develops. As a tolerance to Restoril® develops, the body requires more and more Restoril® to achieve sleep.

Withdrawal from Temazepam

  • Diarrhea
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Seizures

Warning Signs of Restoril Abuse

  • Overwhelming desire to take restoril at a specific time or several times a day
  • Attempting to stop using restoril and failing
  • Needing higher and more frequent doses of restoril to receive the same effect
  • Symptoms of withdrawal from restoril if a dose is missed or reduced

Restoril Withdrawal Treatment

Under the supervision of the professionals at Outpatient Detox, patients do not need to fear experiencing restoril withdrawal symptoms. Patients may detox off of restoril in the comfort of their own homes with personalized treatment plans consisting of a gradual taper off the medication until the medication is no longer needed. Outpatient Detox professionals will also use other non-addictive medications to help with the taper and to keep the patient safe, calm, and able to sleep at night throughout the detoxification period.
