What is Lorcet?

Lorcet®, generically known as hydrocodone/APAP, is a combination of hydrocodone, an opioid pain reliever, and acetaminophen. Lorcet® is prescribed to treat mild to moderate pain. Lorcet® is typically prescribed for short term pain due to an injury, surgery or a dental procedure. Less common uses include coughing, insomnia, migraines and chronic pain.

Why is Lorcet addicting?

Lorcet® is a highly addictive substance and may be habit forming. Within a few weeks of consistently taking Lorcet®, the body adjusts to the presence of the drug and a tolerance develops. As a tolerance to Lorcet® develops, the body requires more and more Lorcet® to achieve pain relief. Taking higher doses of Lorcet® can increase the risk of experiencing uncomfortable side effects.

Lorcet® is a very powerful drug that the body may become physically dependent upon. If a person no longer wishes to continue taking Lorcet® or wants to discontinue taking the drug, medical supervision is necessary to prevent Lorcet withdrawal symptoms.
