Talwin
What is Talwin?
Talwin®, generically known as pentazocine, is a highly potent pain reliever prescribed to treat moderate to severe pain. It can also be used as a supplement to balanced anesthesia (during surgery) and for preoperative and postoperative analgesia. Talwin® relieves pain by depressing the central nervous system.
Why is Talwin addicting?
Talwin® is an addictive substance and may be habit forming. Within a few weeks of consistently taking Talwin® ,the body adjusts to the presence of the drug and a tolerance develops. As a tolerance to Talwin® develops, the body requires more and more Talwin® to achieve pain relief. Taking higher doses of Talwin® can increase the risk of experiencing uncomfortable side effects.
Talwin® is a very powerful drug that the body may become physically dependent upon. If a person no longer wishes to continue taking Talwin® or wants to discontinue taking the drug due to its side effects, medical supervision is necessary to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
