Commonly overlooked as a disease, Addiction is a chronic relapsing brain disorder displayed through compulsive drug abuse and drug seeking behaviors regardless of the known harmful consequences. Chronic disease can be defined as a long-lasting human health condition associated with disorders like asthma, cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS.
In past years, individuals suffering from addiction were viewed as failures and have been punished instead of being helped. Similar to heart disease, addiction negatively affects the functionality of a healthy body organ resulting in severe repercussions to one’s health, both physically and mentally although it is both treatable and preventable, treatment is necessary.
